Team and Coaches

Invitations will be sent out in May and June. This will be done in batches, depending on numbers. For example, if we’ve filled two teams (about 20 players), we will wait until we have the right numbers (about 10 more players) to send out invitations for a third group. Invitations will be for the player pool; team assignments will be done in August after coaches have worked with the players.

Please let us know if you’re interested in coaching! We need every u9 and u10 team to have at least one parent volunteer coach. BRYC staff coaches will help education coaches and the club will assist interested parents with coaching licenses.

Player Pool Format and Team Selections

Our goal is to create an awesome soccer community where players will always have a home and are provided the opportunities they deserve to develop and grow as a soccer player and person.

BRYC Elite Academy uses a player pool approach. The player pool means that all players are considered an equal part of the age group, regardless of which team they are on. The club and coaches work together as a team to ensure all players in the player pool are exposed to quality coaching and are exposed to the various pathways available to them. It also allows players and teams to mix and merge as they progress from playing 7v7 to 9v9 to 11v11, without having to leave their team or teammates.

The league we play in, NCSL, has tiered divisions so that players are playing against the right level of competition to encourage fun and success for players. Teams will be selected based on ability and potential to match the tiered structure of the league, as is standard for travel soccer.

Each player pool (or age group) will have a BRYC staff coach serving as the head coach. This coach will develop practice plans and coordinate with the other coaches. All players/teams within the player pool will practice at the same time and location to promote cohesion among the players and encourage collaboration among the coaches.

League Play

We will use league play as an extension of practice. We are more concerned with teaching the players how to play the game than we are with winning the game. Playing time is split evening during league games so all players have the opportunity to learn the concepts we are teaching. Players will rotate through positions throughout the season at the coach’s discretion.

Tournaments

During tournaments, we will focus on team development and team success – we play to win games and the players learn what it means to truly compete! Of course, all players will still get ample playing time!

Schedule for U9 and U10

Training sessions will be run as a player pool – meaning all teams within the player pool will train at the same time. The player pool will warm-up together and then will breakout based on team, skill level, or other needs. Practice plans are based on US Soccer standards for age groups and are modified based on the players’ skill levels. Each age group is working towards the same skills and the same style of play.

Fall: Mid-August to Thanksgiving

  • Optional 3rd day a week – some Fridays
  • 2-3 tournaments

Winter: December – February

Schedule for U11

Training sessions will be run as a player pool also. The player pool will warm-up together and then will breakout based on team, skill level, or other need. Practice plans are based on US Soccer standards for age groups and are modified based on the players’ skill levels needs identified in games. The whole age group is working towards the same skills and the same style of play.

Practice schedule and season details for the u11 are TBD. The u11 player pool will follow a similar structure to the u9-u10, but may include additional practices and events.
